Exciting, safe, comfortable, fun It's shoulder season, now on October 24, and I think it could not be better. We were with a small group on this very comfortable boat, masterfully captained by Carlos and his mate, Diogo. Our initial check-in was friendly and easy, and our guides took the time to show and explain everything on the way to the Benagil cave and beyond. The weather was perfect, but still in open seas, there are swells. Carlos drives as if he is surfing and catches the waves for comfort and safety. He pulled in and out of caves like driving a small car into a big garage, giving us ample time to take as many photos as we liked. There were other bigger and smaller boats out looking at the caves too. I chose Benagil Express because I liked the look of the boat. I think I made the best decision. The trip was a good value and one highlight of our wonderful visit to the Algarve.
As so many other reviewers have already indicated, this boat tour is really excellent! Great service - thanks Paula - and a terrific skipper and guide. Extra kudos to the skipper for his fantastic skill in manoeuvring the boat in and out of those tricky ocean caves. Obviously ‘old hat’ to him, but to me ... well, sheer admiration! Only a total of 6 passengers on my particular tour this past Thursday, which made for plenty of room to move about to take pics. (No crowds, no queues, and no congestion - major benefit of being here in low season!) And, indeed, I got dozens of fantastic shots of cliffs, caves and coves. (Favourite had to be the Benagil Cave!) Meeting point for the tour is at the Benagil office in Portimão on the Marina Promenade, very close to Portimão’s Municipal Museum. Easy to find. If you happen to be staying in Praia da Rocha, you can get to the Benagil office either by taxi or on foot. (I chose to walk, as the route is very straight-forward. It took me about 20 minutes.) Other useful info: Email: firstname.lastname@example.org Phone: +351 932 300 600 Office has a WC. (Probably a good thing to keep in mind if you’re a heavy coffee drinker, given that the tour is about 2 1/2 hours.) The tour itself: stunning coastline, awesome scenery, fresh sea air, brilliant sunshine, bright blue skies and plenty of opportunities to take photos. What more could anyone ask for!? Wonderful experience! Highly, highly recommended!!!
